ZHANG Hong: Daughter, Wife, Mother—— The "Women" in Akira Kurosawa's Films

The female characters in Akira Kurosawa's films are far more diverse and powerful than one might imagine.
On 12th October, the University Arts Centre, in collaboration with the Division of General Education of HSS, will host a special dialogue with Japanese film scholar Dr. ZHANG Hong with HSS Associate Professor Dr. HAN Yuchen. This event will employ a film semiotics perspective to focus on the vibrant female roles in Kurosawa's work, inviting a renewed examination of the traditional view of his films as predominantly “male cinema”.
